The Dodging Duck Brewhaus
I woke up this morning and the first thing that came to my mind was ROAD TRIP!!! I jumped on Google and mapped out the path to Boerne, TX. Boerne is about 35 miles northwest of San Antonio. I pinned a couple of stops along the way. I found The Dodging Duck on the east side of town. This is what I fround/drank:
Stingy Janks’ Pumpkin Ale (6.0 ABV) :
Heavy nutmeg at first with a combination of spices that make autumn pastries taste like… well autumn pastries.. I took a big sniff before I drank and was reminded that it’s Fall! After a second you get the taste of caramel and heavily roasted malt … the hops aren’t present but are most likely taking a disco nap. The consistency is a bit sticky. That’s good thing! For a festive beer which will usually tend to be on the sweeter side, making it near impossible to drink more than two, I give it a…

Quacker Oats Old Style Ale (5.8 ABV):
Quite the bold taste but not overbearing. Perhaps ordering a pretzel with some brown mustard would bring out said favor. The hops are just about to wake up from their micro-slumber here…you can taste the Fuggles and Goldings hops…no doubt! I could see getting lost in conversation with a pal drinking this one and getting the tab and saying, “We Drank that much?” I put this in the “social drinking” category. Cloudy, tasty and VERY smooth.

Ducktoberfest (6.2 ABV, 60 IBUs):
The Dodging Duck’s eighth years of brewing this bad boy…. perhaps near perfection. At front you taste some what of a tropical fruit combo… mango, melon, banana et al. After a bit, the hops make an announcement, “Okay we’re up from our nap!!! What’s the action?” I found an easy mix of German and Czech Hops. I’m gonna be bold and say this is could be The Dodging Duck’s cash cow for 2009. It’s just a well-rounded beer. Super great!

Fowl Play India Pale Ale:
THE HOPS ARE UP!!! And apparently got a tan. The color of this one is a deep orange amber. And the frosty head has a distinctive cling to the pint glass’ inner wall. You won’t smell the hops but there’s no way of avoiding them after the first taste. If you aren’t a hophead, you could very well be after tasting Fowl Play.

Overall:
Simply put, This place is freakin’ awesome. The folks at The Dodging Duck brew their best like they been at it for decades. The staff is super smiley and the veggie options I found on the menu were absolutely delish. Did I mention the sweet view of the river from the outside deck? And did I mention the half-gallon take home growlers. You gonna buy a growler! You can’t buy these brews at any local beer barn. So, if you wanna get away to a quiet Texas town and love excellent handcrafted brews then Boenre is just the place. For the ladies, lots of cool hip shaggy chic shops to explore. Shopping and brewskies? Sounds like a romantical oasis if you ask me.
